Key points issues relating to creation print projects
Professional DTP projects This is the key to effective visual communication in printed materials. When creating designs for print – such as leaflets, catalogues, posters, business cards or brochures – I pay attention to every detail: from a consistent layout and legible typography to ensuring files are prepared correctly in accordance with the printer’s requirements.
To ensure the final graphic design meets your expectations, before starting work I will ask you for some information regarding the nature of your brand, your target audience and the intended use of the materials. This will enable me to create a DTP design that is not only aesthetically pleasing and attractive, but above all functional and effective in conveying its message.
What sort of print design do you need?
- Advertising leaflets, business cards, posters, banners?
- Product catalogues, information leaflets, brochures?
- Corporate stationery – letterhead, folders, invitations?
Format and technical specifications
- Standard formats (A4, A5, DL) or non-standard ones?
- Should the design be single-sided or double-sided?
- Should the files be prepared to include bleed and margins?
Content and materials for the project
- Do you have any ready-made copy and advertising slogans?
- Would you be willing to share any photographs, illustrations or logos?
- Should I also prepare the content or select stock photos?
Target audience and project objective
- Who is your printed material aimed at?
- Is the project intended to inform, sell or build a brand image?
- What emotions and reactions should the materials evoke?
Colour scheme and graphic style
- Should the project be consistent with the existing visual identity?
- Do you prefer a minimalist, elegant, modern or creative style?
- Are colours meant to evoke specific emotions (trust, energy, prestige)?
Paper type and finishes
- Will the design be printed on glossy, matt or eco-friendly paper?
- Are you interested in matt, gloss or soft-touch film?
- Are you planning any additional finishing touches, such as spot varnish, embossing or gold foil stamping?
Print run and intended use
- What print run are you interested in?
- Will the materials be used on a one-off basis (e.g. for an event) or on a long-term basis?
- Are you planning to produce different versions of the design (e.g. several versions of a leaflet)?
Output file formats
- Printing house – PDF files in CMYK, with bleeds and crop marks.
- Online preview – JPG, PNG.
- Source archive – editable files (AI, PSD, INDD).
Additional requirements
- Does the design need to be consistent with other company materials?
- Are there any graphic elements that should be avoided?
- Do you envisage language versions of the project?
Deadline
- What is the final deadline?
- Is the project related to an event or an advertising campaign?
- Do you allow for the delivery of materials in stages (e.g. leaflets first, then the catalogue)?
